The problem is, it requires no real logic or thought to determine what the candidate numbers are for each cell. I was incredibly bored with sudoku when I had to do this manually. Once I found a computer version that simply gives me the candidates after I’ve completed all the obvious cells, and what was left required actual thought, I started doing sudoku again. If I ever have the computer fill in the candidates, and there is any cell for which there is only one candidate, then I know that I failed in my initial analysis.

I have a burning question: You just placed a 4 8 matching pair in the left column, middle section. Question is if there was another number in one of those boxes, could you just erase it since the matching pair must be there alone?

@14:10 I believe you misstated why the three in r4c6 cannot be eliminated. You say "this 3 here, it cannot see this 3 because it's in the same block." I would say "it can see one corner of the roof but it cannot see the other corner of the roof, therefore it cannot be eliminated."

Seems that the 5s in boxes 3, 4, and 5 would be strong links as long as you stay within the box, right?
As long as they are in line with each other? I hope I have understood your question. Look at other tutorials involving strong and weak links There are many from tutorial 65 and above. Robin
@@SudokuGuy I said within the box (you say block) ...meaning by definition (only two little numbers in the block) the 5s in block 5 only, if connected would be a strong link by definition. A connection of either 5 in block 5 to any of the 5s in block two would be weak links because then the column is involved and there are more than two 5s in the column. But it seems now that just being the only two 5s in block 5 is not enough to make them a strong link if they are also within a column that has additional 5s. Is that right? That wasn't clear from the definitions. After studying the definitions of strong links and weak links, I understand that the link between the two fives in either block three, four or five is a strong link, because if one of the cells is not a five then the other cell must be a five. The strong link can also be a weak link because if one cell is a five then the other cannot be a five. So a strong link can also be a weak link, but a weak link can only be a weak link.

@@SudokuGuy I am from India. I am a big fan of yours. I have watched many of your videos. That's what I wanted to say here. When you said in the beginning of this video that this Sudoku first is now stuck. There is no easy solution in sight. So I thought that digit 5 is present as a naked single in a cell R5C4 of block 5, then why should we use such a difficult method.

Yes it was! we are identical mirror image twins. I.e born face to face he is left handed and I am right handed. I write with my right hand he writes with his left. I look at you with my head slightly right and he looks at you with his head slightly left. I have pain in my left arm and he gets pain in his right arm. I kick a ball with my right foot, he kicks the same ball with his left foot.
